HANDICRAFT VILLAGES

the manufacturing of lacquerware, the spinning and weaving of Thai

MEO & DOI SUTHEP
(TGLCM 03)
Visit the Meo Hilltribes and Doi Suthep. This beautiful drive
takes you uphill to a visit of the Meo Hilltribes, speaking their
own language. Also visit Wat Doi Suthep, tucked away in the
mountains at 3,520 feet (1,056 meters) above sea level.

ELEPHANTS SAFARI RIDE AT MAE SAA AND ORCHID
FARM AND MEO HILLTRIBE
(TGLCM 04)
An adventure trek through some of the North’s picturesque
countryside. Approximately 25kms northwest of Chiang Mai is the
Mae Sa Elephant Camp and it is here we head to watch the elephant
at work, moving logs and generally showing off their various
skills. After the display, there is an exciting elephant trek
through the woods, over hilly trails. Continue to the nearby
orchid farm. Explore and learn about the exquisite blooms. Enjoy
lunch at a local restaurant near the Mae Saa Valley. The adventure
then continues to visit an unspoiled Meo Hill-tribe with an
opportunity to explore the tribal huts and observe the normal
simple, almost primitive way of life. The Meo hill-tribe-people
originated in south China and are currently Thailand’s second
largest hill tribe group.

DOI INTANON + WATERFALL & MEO HILLTRIBE
(TGLCM 05)
Drive south to the Chom Thong District, the location of the
beautiful Wat Phra That Chom Thong monastery. These grand temple
grounds from the 15th century offers, amongst others, a prang,
decorated with flowers and mythological animals. Afterwards drive
through wonderful mountain –scenery with wild orchids to get to
the top of the highest mountain in Thailand, the Doi Inthanon
2,565m. Cool air and a unique nature with lichens and
rhododendrons await you on the “Roof of Thailand”. Visit the Royal
Chedis, which were built by the Royal Thai Air Force to
commemorate the King’s 60th birthday in 1989. In the base of the
octagonal chedi is a hall containing a green stone Buddha image.
Next continue to the Meo Hill-tribe, we will make a short stop at
the Wachiratharn Waterfall and lunch box will be served. The Meos
are descendants of the Mongol race and used to make a living on
poppy cultivation. Though in present times, through the support of
the Royal Project, they cultivate flowers, fruits and vegetables
that can be grown in a cool climate, as a substitute to opium. On
the way back to Chiang Mai, stop at a small pottery village. |

ELEPHANT AT WORK WITH ELEPHANT SAFARI, RAFTING, OX CART RIDE TO
LISU VILLAGE AND ORCHID FARM
(TGLCM 06)
Approximately 60kms north of Chiang Mai, situated on the banks of
the Ping River, is Chiang Dao Elephant Camp. In an unspoiled
setting, marvel at these colossal beasts of burden performing
amazing feats of strength and skill, at the command of their
"mahouts". Watch these colossal animals take a bath and be witness
to a elephant training demonstration. Then follows an exhilarating
elephant trek through the neighboring jungle, past bamboo trees
and hanging creepers, afterwards you will enjoy the rafting
adventure start from here and lasts for 30 minuts along Mae Ping
River. Then you will take the oxcart to a remote Lisu Hill-tribe
Village. The Lisu hill-tribe people originated in Tibet and their
villages are usually located in the mountains at around 1,000
meters. On the way to the Orchid Farm we will stop to have lunch
at a local restaurant. Afterwards you have the opportunity to
learn about the fantastic blooms at the Orchid Farm. |

CHIANG RAI HILLTRIBES & GOLDEN TRIANGLE
(TGLCM 07)
A chance to visit the famous Golden Triangle where the borders of
Thailand, Burma and Laos meet! Take early morning drive through
beautiful scenery, with a short stop at the Hot Springs before
continuing to Chiang Rai. Then visit the Yao and Akha hill-tribe
villages. Continue to visit the ancient city of Chiang Saen and
the Golden Triangle, the world famous spot, notorious for its
still prevalent opium trade! From a viewpoint set high on the
hillside, you’ll have a magnificent view over the Mekong to the
physical triangle made by Burma, Laos and Thailand. Lunch is
served at a local restaurant before visiting Mae Sai, the northern
most Thai town near Myanmar border, you can browse through the
local market at Mai Sai with a lot of local handicrafts from
Myanmar. Return to Chiang Mai.

KANTOKE DINNER
(TGLCM 08)
Typical Thai Dinner with presentation of dances from northern
Thailand, followed by a performance of dance and songs of various
hilltribes.
